AposTherapy improves clinical measurements and gait in patients with knee osteoarthritis

Patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis who participated in this clinical trial reported a considerable improvement in quality of life following treatment with AposTherapy: They experienced a significant 26% reduction in pain and increased joint function by 34%. In addition computerised gait analysis showed enhanced walking patterns, which took into account increased gait velocity, stride length, and single limb support phase, which is the time spent with the body weight on each limb.
At the start of the trial the 46 study patients with bilateral knee osteoarthritis were fully evaluated in a computerised gait analysis lab, as well as asked to complete comprehensive pain, function and quality of life assessments (WOMAC and SF-36 questionnaires). These assessments established their starting point in the study – the patients’ baseline and based upon each patient’s results the unique AposTherapy biomechanical system was adjusted. After 12-weeks of treatment the patients with knee osteoarthritis underwent a full clinical evaluation and walking analysis assessment once again and showed measurably improved joint function and a significant reduction in pain. The findings also indicated an overall enhancement in their walking patterns. This took into account their gait velocity, step length, toe-out angle and how long they spent on each foot.
